Calls connect but end themselves after a minute or two. This page explains what it does, how to use it on an iPhone and which carriers it applies to.

Why does this happen and how do I fix it?

A dropped call is a handover that failed. As you move, the network hands your call from one cell to the next; if the target cell is congested, if the signal falls away faster than the handover can complete, or if the call is riding an unstable 5G or VoLTE leg, the call terminates rather than degrades.

That means location and radio technology matter far more than any iOS setting. Calls that drop in one specific building, or on one specific stretch of road, are a coverage and handover problem. Calls that drop everywhere, on every network, point at the device or the line.

The most useful device-side lever is forcing LTE. Early 5G deployments hand over less reliably than mature LTE, and pinning the phone to LTE for a day is a genuine diagnostic rather than superstition.

Important: Reset Network Settings erases every saved Wi-Fi password, preferred network, VPN and APN configuration. Leave it until the earlier steps have failed.

What should I try, in order?

  1. Note where it happens. If it is one building or one commute, skip straight to Wi-Fi Calling and to reporting the location to your carrier.
  2. Turn on Wi-Fi Calling: Settings, Cellular, the line you use, then Wi-Fi Calling. This routes voice over your internet connection and is the single most effective fix for a weak indoor location.
  3. Force LTE for a day: Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Options, Voice & Data, then LTE. If drops stop, the 5G layer in your area is the cause โ€” set it back to 5G Auto and report it.
  4. Remove any case that covers the antenna bands, and check Settings, General, About for a carrier settings update.
  5. Reset Network Settings if drops happen everywhere including places with strong signal.
  6. If it still drops after a reset, give the carrier the exact locations and times. They can check the cell sites involved; you cannot.
