Quick answer

A WhatsApp click-to-chat link has the form https://wa.me/<number>?text=<message>. The number must be in international format with digits only: country code, then the number, with no plus sign, spaces or leading zeros. Anyone who taps the link gets a chat with you, with your message pre-filled, without saving your number first.

How to use it

  1. Enter your number. With the country code, for example 44 7700 900123 for the UK. Spaces, dashes and the plus sign are removed for you.
  2. Add a message (optional). For example "Hi, I would like to book an appointment".
  3. Copy and share. Put the link on your website, in your Instagram or TikTok bio, in ads or in your email signature.

Common errors and how to fix them

"The phone number shared via link is invalid"
The number has no country code or still has a leading 0. Use the full international number, such as 447700900123, without + or 00.
The message is cut off after & or #
Those characters were not encoded. Build the text with encodeURIComponent, as this tool does.
The chat opens but messages never arrive
That number does not use WhatsApp, or uses WhatsApp Business on a different number. Test the link yourself first.
The link opens the browser instead of the app
On a computer, wa.me opens WhatsApp Web or asks to open the app; on phones it opens the app if it is installed. This is normal.
