If the damage extends to your identity โ someone opened accounts in your name, or ported your number and used it to break into other accounts โ IdentityTheft.gov is the more useful destination. It generates an FTC Identity Theft Report and a personal recovery plan, and that report is the document creditors and carriers ask for.
AT&T points customers at the same places, and adds the practical follow-ups: place a fraud alert with Equifax, Experian or TransUnion, close accounts you suspect were tampered with, and file a police report so you have a copy to give anyone who needs proof.
