After you forward the message, your carrier usually texts back asking for the sender's number or email address. Reply with that and you will get a confirmation. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile all describe this two-step exchange on their own support pages, and none of them charge for it โ T-Mobile states the messages do not count against your plan, AT&T states forwards to 7726 are free.
Reporting does not block the sender. It feeds your carrier's security team the data they use to filter future messages network-wide. Block the number separately if you want the messages to stop reaching you.
Important: Do not tap any link in the message before or while forwarding it, and never reply to the original sender.
How do I do it?
- Open the message thread without tapping any link inside it.
- Touch and hold the offending message, tap More, then tap the forward arrow.
- Type 7726 in the To field and send.
- When your carrier replies asking who sent it, reply with the sender's number or email address.
- Delete the original message once you have the confirmation.
