ATS resume checker

Compare your resume with a job description: see your keyword match score, the keywords you are missing and whether the sections an ATS looks for are there.

Add missing keywords only where they are true for you, in your own words. Everything runs in your browser: imported files are read on your device, never uploaded or saved, and are gone when you refresh the page.

Quick answer

An ATS (applicant tracking system) is the software employers use to store and search applications, and recruiters often search it by keywords from the job ad. Paste your resume and the job description here to get a match score, the missing keywords and checks for contact details, experience, education and skills. It runs in your browser, with no sign-up and no upload.

How to use it

  1. Paste or import your resume. Paste the text, or import your resume as a PDF, Word (.docx) or text file.
  2. Paste the job description. Copy the full job ad, including requirements, into the second box.
  3. Fix the gaps. Add missing keywords where they are true for you, then check the score again.

Example

A backend developer resume against a Node.js job ad:

Input

Job: Node.js, TypeScript, MongoDB, AWS, Docker, REST APIs
Resume: Node.js, MongoDB, REST APIs, TypeScript

Output

Match score: about 60%
Missing keywords: aws, docker, microservices
Resume checks: email, phone, experience, education and skills found

Common errors and how to fix them

The score is low although I have the skills
Use the exact words from the job ad. "JS" does not match "JavaScript", and "Postgres" does not match "PostgreSQL".
Nothing happens
Fill both boxes. A scanned PDF has no text to read: convert it with PDF to JPG, read it with the image to text converter, then paste the result.

Frequently asked questions

What is an ATS?

An applicant tracking system: software that companies use to collect, sort and search job applications. Recruiters filter and search it, often by keywords from the job description.

How is the match score calculated?

The tool takes the most frequent words and repeated two-word phrases in the job description, weighted by how often they appear, and shows what share of them is in your resume.

What is a good ATS match score?

There is no official pass mark. Aim to cover the main skills and tools the job repeats, usually most of the top keywords, without adding anything that is not true.

Is this ATS checker really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no login and no limit. Imported PDF and Word files are read in your browser, never uploaded or saved, and are gone when you refresh the page.

Should I copy the job description into my resume?

No. Use the same words for skills you really have, in sentences about what you did. Keyword stuffing can pass software and still fail with the recruiter who reads it.

Why are some missing keywords not skills?

The tool cannot know every word that matters. Ignore general words, and focus on skills, tools, job titles and certifications.

Can an ATS read PDF resumes?

Most modern systems read text-based PDF and Word files. Avoid scanned images, text inside pictures and complex tables, and use standard headings.

Which sections should my resume have?

Contact details, a short summary, work experience, education and skills, with standard headings so the software can find them.

How long should a resume be?

Usually one page with under 10 years of experience and two pages with more. The check flags resumes under 300 or over 1,000 words.

Does it work for CVs and in other languages?

Yes, for any text, including Hebrew. The section checks look for English and Hebrew headings.

How can I build an ATS-friendly resume?

Use simple formatting and clear headings. The Resume Builder app makes ATS-friendly PDFs and has its own ATS check, and the word counter helps you keep it short.
