What is T-Mobile SIM Protection?
SIM Protection is free for T-Mobile Postpaid customers and prevents a bad actor moving your number onto a device they control. It sits alongside Port Out Protection: one covers your number leaving T-Mobile, this one covers it moving inside T-Mobile.
An Authorized User can add SIM Protection, but only the Primary Account Holder can remove it. That asymmetry is intentional โ it means someone who compromises a secondary login cannot simply undo the protection.
The practical consequence is that you must disable it before a legitimate change. If you swap to a new SIM or move your eSIM to a new iPhone with SIM Protection still on, the transfer errors out. Prepaid accounts manage the same setting from the primary line's T-Mobile ID on T-Mobile.com.
Important: Turn SIM Protection off before transferring your eSIM to a new iPhone, or the activation will simply fail with an error.
How do I do it?
- Open the T-Life app and select the Manage tab.
- Tap the gear icon, then Security.
- Tap SIM Protection.
- Set the toggle for the whole account or for individual lines.
- Tap Save Changes, then Continue.
