What is Low Power Mode And What It Turns Off?
Low Power Mode is not just a dimmer screen. Apple lists what it actually changes: 5G turns off on most devices, Auto-Lock drops to thirty seconds, display brightness is reduced, ProMotion refresh is capped at 60 Hz, iCloud Photos pauses, automatic downloads stop, email fetch stops and Background App Refresh is turned off.
The 5G behaviour has an exception. On iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, 5G stays on during video streaming and large downloads. On iPhone 12 models, Low Power Mode also disables 5G Standalone where that is available.
Practically this means messages and mail may arrive late while it is on, which catches people out. On iPhone 15 and later the switch moved under Settings, Battery, Power Mode. On iPhone 14 and earlier it is directly on the Battery screen. It also switches itself off once you charge back to eighty percent.
How do I do it?
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Battery.
- On iPhone 15 and later, tap Power Mode.
- Turn Low Power Mode on or off, or use the battery icon in Control Centre.
