What is AT&T Passcode And Extra Security?
AT&T runs two separate passcodes and it helps to know which is which. The account passcode is what you give when you call AT&T or walk into a store. The extra security passcode is an optional additional code required when signing in to your wireless account online.
Both are 4 to 8 digits, and AT&T asks you to avoid three or more sequential or identical digits โ no 1234, no 1111. Both are managed from the same Passcode section of your account profile Settings: Edit changes the passcode, Manage extra security switches the online requirement on.
AT&T's port-out guidance recommends turning extra security on specifically because, in most cases, the passcode is then required before any change can be made โ including ports initiated by another carrier. Business accounts do not have the extra security option.
How do I do it?
- Go to your AT&T account profile and sign in.
- Choose Settings.
- Scroll to Passcode and select Edit to set a 4 to 8 digit account passcode.
- Return to Passcode and select Manage extra security.
- Follow the prompts to enable extra security for online sign-in.
