If the format does not match the record — St against Street, Dr against Drive, a missing unit number, or a recently built address not yet in the database — validation fails and the switch will not commit.

Wi-Fi Calling refuses to accept the address you enter. This page explains what it does, how to use it on an iPhone and which carriers it applies to.

I build **Secret Codes: IMEI & Carrier**, a free iPhone app with 317 checked codes and guides, including this one. If you would rather tap than memorise, [get Secret Codes on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/secret-codes-imei-carrier/id6807154322).

## Why does this happen and how do I fix it?

The address you type is validated against a postal address database rather than simply stored. If the format does not match the record — St against Street, Dr against Drive, a missing unit number, or a recently built address not yet in the database — validation fails and the switch will not commit.

Some carriers offer you a corrected suggestion when this happens; accepting the suggestion is usually the fastest resolution even if it looks slightly different from how you write your address. A PO box is never accepted, because emergency responders cannot be sent to one.

A genuinely new address that is not yet in the database cannot be forced through from the phone. That case has to go to the carrier, who can enter it manually on their side.

**Important:** Do not register an address you are not actually at. Emergency responders are dispatched to the registered address when a 911 call is placed over Wi-Fi and cellular is unavailable.

## What should I try, in order?

- Retype the address exactly as the postal service formats it, using the abbreviations from your mail rather than the spelled-out versions.
- Include the apartment, suite or unit number in its own field if one is offered. A missing unit is a frequent rejection cause.
- Accept the corrected address if the carrier suggests one — the suggestion comes from the validated database and will pass.
- Do not use a PO box. It will never validate and would be useless to responders in any case.
- Try setting the address through your carrier's own app or website instead of on the phone. The web forms often give a clearer reason for the rejection.
- If a valid, occupied address still will not validate, call the carrier and ask them to enter it manually. New-build addresses genuinely need this.
