Blocks SIM swaps, eSIM moves and upgrades on your Verizon line. This page explains what it does, how to use it on an iPhone and which carriers it applies to.

I build **Secret Codes: IMEI & Carrier**, a free iPhone app with 317 checked codes and guides, including this one. If you would rather tap than memorise, [get Secret Codes on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/secret-codes-imei-carrier/id6807154322).

## What is Verizon SIM Protection?

Number Lock stops your number leaving Verizon. SIM Protection stops it moving to a different device while it stays on Verizon — which is the shape most SIM-swap attacks actually take. Verizon describes protected lines as blocked from every transaction that needs a new SIM, including SIM swaps, device upgrades and bring-your-own-device activations.

The two are separate toggles on the same Security settings screen, and turning on only one leaves the other route open. Enabling both is the complete version of this protection.

Verizon also enforces a cooling-off period: after you disable SIM Protection, SIM changes and upgrade orders stay blocked for a further 15 minutes. That deliberately frustrates an attacker who has just talked their way into your account and wants to act immediately.

**Important:** Leave time before an upgrade or a new iPhone setup — SIM Protection blocks the activation, and the block persists for 15 minutes after you switch it off.

## How do I do it?

- Sign in to My Verizon on the web with Account Owner or Manager access.
- Go to Account, then Account settings, then Security settings.
- Find the SIM Protection section and click Edit.
- Set the toggle for each number you want protected.
- Click Save changes and complete any extra verification you are prompted for.
