Stop individual apps from using mobile data at all. This page explains what it does, how to use it on an iPhone and which carriers it applies to.

I build **Secret Codes: IMEI & Carrier**, a free iPhone app with 317 checked codes and guides, including this one. If you would rather tap than memorise, [get Secret Codes on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/secret-codes-imei-carrier/id6807154322).

## What is Per-App Cellular Data Switches?

Settings, Cellular has a list of every app that has ever used cellular data, with a switch for each and the amount it used underneath. Tap Show All to see the full list rather than the top few. Turn an app off and it will only work on Wi-Fi.

This is the surgical alternative to Low Data Mode. If one video or backup app is eating your allowance, switching just that app off keeps everything else normal.

Wi-Fi Assist sits in the same list as a service rather than an app. It is on by default and quietly switches to cellular when Wi-Fi is weak, which is a common explanation for data usage people cannot account for.

## How do I do it?

- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Cellular.
- Scroll to the app list and tap Show All.
- Turn off the switch beside any app you want restricted to Wi-Fi.

## Which carriers does this apply to?

| Published for | any iPhone, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and UScellular |

| Type | iOS setting |

| Good to know | Available on iOS 17, 18 and 26 on every iPhone with a cellular plan. |

## How Secret Codes helps

Secret Codes keeps this and every other entry a search away. Pick your carrier once and each entry says whether it is published for your line. You can save favourites, add a private note, and record whether a code worked on your line.

**Secret Codes: IMEI & Carrier** is free on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/secret-codes-imei-carrier/id6807154322
