AT&T publishes this as *PORT — the digits spell it out. This page explains what `*7678` does, how to use it on an iPhone and which carriers it applies to.

I build **Secret Codes: IMEI & Carrier**, a free iPhone app with 317 checked codes and guides, including this one. If you would rather tap than memorise, [get Secret Codes on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/secret-codes-imei-carrier/id6807154322).

## What does *7678 do?

AT&T requires a Number Transfer PIN before any number can move to another provider. From an AT&T mobile line you can request one by calling *PORT, which on a standard keypad is *7678 — the iPhone dialler has no letters, so you enter the digits. You will need your account passcode to complete the request, and the PIN arrives by text.

The PIN is the same for every number on the account you are transferring and it expires after 4 days for consumer accounts, 14 days for business. Requesting a new one invalidates all previous PINs, so do not request another after you have already handed one to your new carrier.

Two things will stop this working. If Wireless Account Lock is on, no transfer PIN can be used at all — turn it off first. And AT&T Prepaid does not use Number Transfer PINs, so this route does not apply there.

**Important:** Never give a Number Transfer PIN to anyone who contacts you. It exists to let a new carrier claim your number, which is exactly what a port-out thief needs.

## How do I use *7678?

- Turn off Wireless Account Lock first if you have it enabled.
- Dial *7678 from the AT&T line you want to transfer.
- Follow the prompts and enter your account passcode.
- Read the PIN from the text message AT&T sends you.
- Give it to your new carrier within 4 days.
