Turn on the encrypted RCS beta where both carriers support it. This page explains what it does, how to use it on an iPhone and which carriers it applies to.

I build **Secret Codes: IMEI & Carrier**, a free iPhone app with 317 checked codes and guides, including this one. If you would rather tap than memorise, [get Secret Codes on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/secret-codes-imei-carrier/id6807154322).

## What is End-To-End Encrypted RCS?

Apple added an End-to-End Encryption beta to RCS. It is on the RCS Messaging screen at Settings, Apps, Messages, RCS Messaging, and Apple states it is on by default where supported.

Encryption is only in force when everyone in the conversation is on a carrier that supports it, which means your own carrier supporting it is necessary but not sufficient. When a conversation is actually protected, Messages shows the word Encrypted with a lock at the top. No indicator means the messages are not protected in transit.

Ordinary iMessage between Apple devices has always been end to end encrypted, so this only changes things for the green bubble conversations.

## How do I do it?

- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Apps, then tap Messages.
- Tap RCS Messaging.
- Turn End-to-End Encryption (Beta) on, then look for the Encrypted lock at the top of a conversation.

## Which carriers does this apply to?

| Published for | any iPhone, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and UScellular |

| Type | iOS setting |

| Good to know | iOS 26.5 or later and a carrier that supports encrypted RCS. Apple describes it as a beta rolling out over time, so support is uneven. |

## How Secret Codes helps

Secret Codes keeps this and every other entry a search away. Pick your carrier once and each entry says whether it is published for your line. You can save favourites, add a private note, and record whether a code worked on your line. This entry is part of Secret Codes Pro.

**Secret Codes: IMEI & Carrier** is free on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/secret-codes-imei-carrier/id6807154322
