One toggle that freezes SIM swaps, upgrades and number transfers. This page explains what it does, how to use it on an iPhone and which carriers it applies to.

I build **Secret Codes: IMEI & Carrier**, a free iPhone app with 317 checked codes and guides, including this one. If you would rather tap than memorise, [get Secret Codes on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/secret-codes-imei-carrier/id6807154322).

## What is AT&T Wireless Account Lock?

Introduced free in 2025, Wireless Account Lock disables a specific set of high-risk transactions across every device and line on an AT&T wireless account. AT&T lists what it blocks: device upgrades, SIM and eSIM swaps, IMEI changes, phone number changes, transferring a number to or from another carrier, adding or removing lines, and changes to authorized users. Locked features appear greyed out in your account.

It has to be switched from the AT&T app on a device active on the account — there is no website toggle for consumer wireless. Anyone with primary or secondary access can flip it, and every change triggers an email to the primary account holder plus a text to every active number on the account.

AT&T's own advice is worth repeating verbatim: AT&T will never call or text you and ask you to turn Wireless Account Lock off. Anyone who does is running the scam this feature exists to stop.

**Important:** AT&T will never phone or text you asking you to unlock your account. Treat any such request as fraud.

## How do I do it?

- Open the AT&T app on a device active on your wireless account and sign in.
- Tap the person icon.
- Scroll to and select Wireless account lock.
- Swipe to lock the account.
- Check that the confirmation email and text arrive.

## Which carriers does this apply to?

| Good to know | AT&T Wireless and AT&T Prepaid, via the AT&T app only. Standalone tablets, hotspots and Wireless Home Phones need a call or a store visit. |

## How Secret Codes helps

Secret Codes keeps this and every other entry a search away. Pick your carrier once and each entry says whether it is published for your line. You can save favourites, add a private note, and record whether a code worked on your line.

**Secret Codes: IMEI & Carrier** is free on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/secret-codes-imei-carrier/id6807154322
